Bedgrove Junior School has won a Caring for the Environment prize worth over £5000!

In October we ran a competition for schools to tell us how they support eco-initiatives.

The prize was our biggest ever: Wall Art worth up to £5000, a Caring for Environment Product Bundle and a Wildlife Consultation with Herts & Middlesex Wildlife Trust.

The Caring for Environment Product Bundle included equipment to encourage biodiversity, explore nature and gardening.

The Wildlife Consultation included a visit and plan to benefit local wildlife and outdoor learning.

Over 300 schools entered the competition and the winner was Bedgrove Junior School!

Bedgrove Junior School is a primary school in Aylesbury. Part of the Great Learners Multi Academy Trust comprising of seven other local schools, Bedgrove is a unique four form Junior School with 120+ pupils in each year group. The large year groups means great collaborations between teachers where they plan together to share best practice.

County Supplies' marketing team really enjoyed reading about Bedgrove's eco initiatives competition entry.

Bedgrove Junior School supports a number of initiatives to encourage eco-values such as planting seeds, flowers and vegetables, wildflower area, bird boxes, pond dipping and run an eco club for students. They recycle paper, plastic, batteries, crisp packets, milk bottle tops, pens and glue sticks and even have a clothing station.

''We have run a very popular gardening and eco club within the school for 2 years. Our Eco Warriors are slowly changing the children's way of thinking and saving the planet in a small way that they can. Crisp Munchers around the school and each week take empty bags to the local Tesco. We have won a couple of local initiatives to further our eco ethos. We have a garden plot and the children have grown fruit and veg to cook with. Wild flowers sent for the Queens Jubilee were planted to encourage the local bees.

The children have had talks from the local Womble group to encourage even more recycle initiatives.  Aylesbury Wombles is a registered charity that litter pick locally.

Our Year 5 again have just completed Bikeability to enable them to ride to school. Bikeability is the government’s national cycle training programme which helps you learn practical skills and understand how to cycle on today’s roads.

We have also approached the local council about taking control of some land outside the school to turn into an outside teaching space.’
